FSU's spring practice is wrapping up, and for the first time in a few years, Noles fans have genuine reasons to approach the end of spring with optimism rather than dread. Two scrimmages have told us a lot about this team -- the defense is ahead of schedule, the skill talent is deeper than expected, and the culture inside the program has been cleaned up. But there are still real questions to answer before the curtain comes down on spring 2026.
The most obvious question is the quarterback situation. Norvell has been consistent: both Ashton Daniels and Kevin Sperry have had good moments and bad moments, and neither has separated in either scrimmage. The final scrimmage is the last live evaluation before fall camp, and it may force the coaching staff's hand -- at minimum, it will give us a clearer picture of who is getting first-team reps by the end of spring. OC Tim Harris Jr. spoke to the media and the message was consistent with what we've heard all camp: the offense wants to see more consistency and fewer self-inflicted wounds.
The second question is how the offense generates explosive plays with a starting-caliber receiver in Duce Robinson managing his workload. Jayvan Boggs has stepped up beautifully -- his connection with Ashton Daniels has been one of the quiet positives of camp. But can this offense string together drives without relying on Robinson? The answer to that question will define the 2026 season. If Carter, Lopez, and Boggs can generate explosives in the final scrimmage, the answer is yes.
The third question is whether the depth chart begins to take shape at contested spots -- center, cornerback, the second and third wideout spots, linebacker with Gbayor out. None of these will be fully resolved in one scrimmage, but the coaching staff will be watching closely. Given what we've seen in two scrimmages, this final evaluation is worth your full attention.
